Sports Pick Debut Series 17

NFL figures are a big hit for McFarlane Sports.  Seven figures make up the Sport Pick Debut Series 17 set and they are some of the finest sports figures that I've seen McFarlane create.  Quality appears to be bumped up yet another notch.  It's easy to understand why McFarlane figures are considered by many collectors to be the benchmark that other toy manufacturers must attempt to match.

Of the seven figures, I've already reviewed Brett Favre and Tony Romo elsewhere on this page, so I'll concentrate my reviews to the remaining five figures.

The Oakland Raiders' JaMarcus Russel figure is posed as if taking a short side step, ready to snap a pass. Pay particular attention to the figure's realistic Raiders uniform.  I'm especially impressed by the attention to the shoes, helmet and jersey.

The figure is nicely sculpted, tightly painted with no slop over and realistically posed.  You can even see the stitching on the football.  A section of football field is the figure's base.  The other figures in the set have similar bases.

The Running Back Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints figure is all motion as it/he holds a football close to its/his chest and sidesteps to avoid a tackle.  I love the expression on its/his face.

The helmet, uniform and other clothing match the Saints uniform, right down to the slightly metallic silver pants.

The red faceplate helmet, red gloves and shoes are the details to appreciate as is the Randy Moss of the New England Patriots figure's stance, balance and paint application.  Duplicating flesh tones, especially dark skin tones, is hard to accomplish, without figure's flesh tones multi hued, giving it a realistic look.

The Joseph Addai Indianapolis Colts figure is crouched low, football held tight to its/his body and shifted as if ready to sprint.

The figure is a study in positive and negative as its/his deep blue and white uniform silhouettes the figure's dynamic pose.

Running back Willie Parker of the Pittsburgh Steelers figure is  the bulgiest of the series.  You can see the figure's muscles bulging under its/his yellow, black and white uniform.  You can feel the power of this figure, accented by its pose.

Giants and Owens

McFarlane Sports introduces a cool new sports collectible item with its NFL Championship Edition series containing the complete starting line-up of the New York Giants in full huddle formation.

Miniature figures stand in place in a special, oval, transparent display case that shows each member of the team in full sports regalia and line position.

All 11 team members are present and are expertly sculpted, painted and positioned as if ready for the snap.

Team members include Burress, Toomer, Boss, Diehl, Seubert, O'Hara, Snee, McKenzie, Manning, Jacobs and Hedgecock.

A Collector's Edition featuring Terrell Owens is sure to be a popular collectible among sports fans and fanatics.

The NFL player sits on a field bench.  His silver and star emblazoned Dallas Cowboy helmets sits to his side.

Terrell holds a towel in is hands as he leans slightly forward.  His facial expression looks as if he is excited about a play.

This Collector's Edition figure appears as if very special care was taken to sculpt, paint and position it.  Colors are crisp with no slop over, accessories and clothing appear perfectly in scale and accurate and the figure looks just like Terrell.

The figure is displayed in an oversize box with three sides and part of the top clear for easy viewing.

Favre And Romo

From the NFL comes the McFarlane Sports quarterback figures of Brett Favre and Tony Romo.

Both figures are non-articulated but far from stagnant. Favre looks as if he is about to throw a bullet as he moves in for the throw and Romo does a little sidestep as he prepares himself for the long pass.

Tony Romo's Dallas Cowboys uniform matches the professional football team's colors and outfit perfectly with short sleeve jersey over a long-sleeved white shirt, deep blue and aqua pants, socks and uniform emblems and a heavy duty silver helmet.  The figure even has a waist towel.  Tony comes with a section of the football field as a base as does Brett Favre.

Green Bay Packers' star quarterback Brett Favre's likeness is captured perfectly in the McFarlane figure.  From his green and yellow uniform, helmet, socks and shoes-every detail is exact.

Be sure to take a moment and look over the facial, figure and clothing details of each figure.  Paint application is crisp and precise and figure texturing and team numbers and logos are dead on.

Curt  Schilling

Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, part of McFarlane’s Sports MLB Series 22, is a remarkable baseball figure.

Schilling is shown in mid-pitch as he readies to let go a scorching fastball against the batter.

I love the delicacy of the sculpting of this figure. Check out the thinness of his baseball cap brim.  From mud spattered shoes to uniform accuracy this figure is a sure fire fastball!
