The Complete Star Trek: The Next Generation Series 1 Although Star Trek disappeared from TV screens as an original series several years ago with Enterprise, the Star Trek fan base still exists stronger than ever. When Star Trek: The Next Generation first appeared on TV there were mixed reactions from the fans. Diehard original series fans weren't so sure they could warm up to a new Enterprise crew while others were excited to see Star Trek, in any form, back on TV. With the success of the Star Trek movies fans were clamoring for more Trek. While staying true to the original series, TNG soon found its own voice and so was launched a new Star Trek TV series franchise that would soon spawn three other Trek series: Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. Rittenhouse Archive (Sci-Fi Hobby) has released a new Star Trek: The Next Generation Trading Cards series that covers the first half of the acclaimed series. Over 500 images are taken from the first 88 episodes. Five Cards come per Pack with 24 Packs per Box. Each Box is guaranteed to contain four Autograph Cards. Mine consists of Jeff McCarthy, Dana Sparks, Alan Shearman and William Denis. Fans should be on the look out for randomly inserted Cut Signature Gene Roddenberry Cards. Stargate Universe may have been cancelled by SyFy Network but the trading cards live on with Rittenhouse Archives' SGU: Stargate Universe Season 1 Trading Cards. With 72 Cards per Base Set (I assembled one full Base Set with a sizable chunk for another) the five Cards per Foil Pack, 24 Packs per Box Trading Cards capture key scenes from the First Season of the third Stargate series. Noticeably darker than its two predecessors (Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis), SGU was just coming into its own when it was unexpectedly cancelled by SyFy. Rittenhouse Archives has done an excellent job of selecting images from the show featuring episode photos and behind-the-scenes candid shots. As with all Rittenhouse Archives Trading Cards, collectors can expect excellent randomly inserted Bonus Cards. Look Quotable Eli Cards (I received 3), Lenticular Cards (make that 1 for me), Transparent Crew Cards (2 in my selection) and guaranteed 3 Autograph Cards (Julia Benson, Haig Sutherland and Brian Smith are mine) and 2 Costume Relic Cards (Alan Armstrong and Eli Wallace came in my Box). Rittenhouse Archives recently released a new set of Star Trek Trading Cards that spotlight the ladies of Star Trek. As hard it is to believe there used to be a time when strong female lead characters were few and far between in the world of TV. Sure, there were comedy sitcoms and the occasional drama that starred woman but they were often portrayed as weak and dependent on their male counterparts to get them out of trouble. When Star Trek was first broadcast in 1966 not only was there a strong, independent female costar (Uhura) on the series but she was black as well. Talk about ground-breaking! Strong females have always played pivotal roles in each Star Trek series either as heroines or protagonists. Uhura, Janeway, Seven of Nine, Dak, Troi and dozens of other female characters kept the shows fresh and relevant. The new Trading Card Set from Rittenhouse Archive, consisting of 81 Base Cards (I assembled one full Set), consists of photo Cards of each character in chronological order of appearance by series. As with all Rittenhouse Trading Cards, this series has some outstanding randomly inserted Bonus Cards. Three Autograph Cards are guaranteed per box (I received Terry Ferrell, Denise Cosby and Michele Scarabelli) and two Relic Cards per Box (I got as piece of Janeway’s uniform and T-Pol’s outfit). Also look for nine Portrait Gallery cards (three for me), nine Leading Ladies Cards (one in my Box) and nine Romantic Relationships Cards (again one). Five Cards come per Foil Pack with 24 Packs per Box. The more boxes and cases you buy the
bigger and better Bonus Cards. Check
Rittenhouse Archives’ website for full information.
