This course is designed to introduce the students to the area of computer-generated artwork used in the commercial art field. The programs used will include, but are not be limited to: Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Anim8or, Supergoo, Blender and Terragen. The course is

designed around creating work that is being used in the commercial world. An understanding of the elements and principles of design and composition are essential ingredients for success in the class.  Students will be instructed in all aspects of preparing art and photos for print and the web.  Computer drawing tablets will be used.

 

Course Title: Advanced Computer Graphics II 0103310 (Y)

Prerequisite: Computer Graphics I (“B” average)

The purpose of this course is to investigate computer graphics systems and to produce computer-generated images. The programs used will include, but are not be limited to: Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Anim8or, Supergoo, Blender and Terragen. The content should include, but is not be limited to the following: further exploration of computer imagery in the arts and industry; application of the elements and principles of two-dimensional design; application of the elements and principles of the fine and applied arts; methods of making aesthetic judgments.  Students will be instructed in all aspects of preparing art and photos for print and the web.  Computer drawing tablets will be used.

 

Graphic Design 0106300

The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop skills in graphic design.  Students will create illustrated pieces of art using traditional media such as pencil, ink and color and digitally using software such as, but not limited to PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Anim8or, Blender Terragen and SuperGoo. Students will learn how to translate illustrations/artwork to a digital format for use in print and electronic media such as websites, digital portfolios, etc. Emphasis will be placed on layout, design and typography. Students will be instructed in all aspects of preparing art for print and the web.  Computer drawing tablets will be used.

 

Course Title: Advanced Placement Studio Art 2-D 0109350 (Y)

Prerequisite: Art II/2-D Comp II; Teacher recommendation

AP Studio Art requires production of an extensive portfolio, with emphasis on quality, breadth, and an area of concentration. It follows the College Board’s Advanced Placement Curriculum. Because of the strenuous requirements of the AP curriculum, students interested in taking this program begin their portfolio in their junior year. In unique cases, with teacher recommendation, students may begin the portfolio as seniors. Admission to this AP program is based on demonstrated interest, ability, and department recommendation.

The student will identify art elements as line, color texture, value, and shape; describe their relationship to each other in drawings; identify the art principles of harmony, balance, contrast, depth, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety; and how each relates to drawing. The student will produce drawings that incorporate each of these elements and principles; demonstrate competency in use of methods, materials, tools and techniques; and demonstrate a basic understanding of criteria for judging the aesthetic merits of drawing.

 

Course Title: Drawing II  0104350 (Y)

Prerequisite: Drawing I (“B” average)

The content should include, but not be limited to, intensified work, in gesture and contour drawing; the study of mass linear extension and forms created by continual surface lines and parallel line concept; perception and response, the ways that sensory elements combine to work to give a work of art an expressive quality; use of various drawing techniques both in black & white and color; the introduction of drawings based on interpretation of ideas, feelings and experiences; the history of art; and the criteria judgments about aesthetic merit and qualities of drawings and more sophisticated spatial concepts.
